Three Moths
Since my tag on most social media platforms is “tigermoth”, I decided to try painting some on my jeans. This was my first attempt at painting on fabric, and these jeans have yet to pass the ultimate test of going through a wash without the paint coming off. I’m sure I’ll work up the courage one day.
According to my research, starting off with a white fabric paint base helps make the colours layered on top more vivid.
Here's a progress shot of the first moth. For the colours, I used acrylics mixed with a fabric medium.
I had absolutely no idea there were so many species of tiger moths out there. This is a (slightly wonky) harnessed tiger moth.
And this is a painted tiger moth. I tried to stay as true to the realistic colours as possible. And they say moths are bland!
This last one is not a tiger moth, but a Chinese moon moth - a male, to be exact. The females lack the bright pink colour on their wings.
Here's the finished product! Of these three, I think the harnessed tiger moth is my favourite. Nothing beats that classic orange/black combo.
